Google Sheets sync
Keep a Google Sheet filled with hackathons and their organizers, updated every hour
Google Sheets sync writes hackathons into a spreadsheet you own and keeps the rows up to date every hour. Your team can filter, sort and share the sheet without copy-paste. You manage it at /settings/google-sheets.
Connect a sheet
Start the connection
Go to /settings/google-sheets and click Add New Integration.Sign in with Google
Choose your Google account and approve access. HackathonRadar asks only for access to files you pick or that it creates for you, not your whole Drive.Choose a spreadsheet
On the setup page, click Select Existing Sheet to pick one from Drive, or Create New Sheet to make a fresh spreadsheet named "Hackathon Radar" plus today's date.Name the integration
Integration Name fills in with the spreadsheet's name. Change it if you like.Pick the tab
Sheet Name is the tab the rows go into. It defaults toHackathons, and the tab is created if it does not exist.Pick a sync type
Choose All Updates or Newly Seen Only under Sync Type, then click Create Integration.
The first sync starts straight away and writes hackathons from the last 24 hours. After that, the sheet updates on the hourly schedule. Use Open Sheet on the integration card to jump to the spreadsheet.
You can connect more than one sheet. Each card shows the name, status, sync type, tab name, when it last synced and when it was created.
Sync types
| Sync type | What it writes |
|---|---|
| All Updates | Every hackathon that is added or updated. Existing rows are refreshed when the hackathon changes. |
| Newly Seen Only | Hackathons the first time they appear on HackathonRadar. |
Sync covers the whole database. It cannot be limited to a saved search, so use the sheet's own filters, or a filtered view of the tab, to narrow it down.
How rows are written
- Row 1 holds the column headers.
- Each hackathon has one row, matched by the hackathon's ID in column A. When a hackathon changes, its row is updated in place. New hackathons are added at the bottom.
- Sorting and filtering the sheet are safe. Do not insert, delete or reorder columns inside the synced range (A to AW), or new data lands in the wrong place. Put your own notes and formulas to the right of column AW.
- Event Type is
createdfor new hackathons andupdatedfor changes.
The columns cover the event's basics, dates, prizes, location, links, description, categories and status, plus its organizers with their websites, social handles and emails, and a sync timestamp. Multiple organizers are joined with commas in one cell.
A large update can take more than one hourly run to reach your sheet. Nothing is skipped: each run carries on from where the last one stopped.
Disconnect a sheet
Click the trash icon on the integration card and confirm. Syncing stops and the card disappears. The spreadsheet and its rows stay in your Drive. To remove HackathonRadar's access to your Google account as well, revoke it from your Google Account's third-party access settings.
Troubleshooting
You came back from Google but no integration appeared. The Google sign-in did not finish in time. Click Add New Integration and try again.
"OAuth session expired. Please reconnect your Google account." The setup page waited too long after the Google sign-in. Go back to /settings/google-sheets and click Add New Integration again.
"Failed to create integration". Usually HackathonRadar could not open the spreadsheet. It can only open files you choose through Select Existing Sheet or create with Create New Sheet, and your Google account needs edit access to the file. Wait a minute if you just created it, then try again. If a card for the failed attempt appears in your list, delete it first.
The sheet stopped updating. Check the card still shows Active. If you deleted or renamed the tab, sync recreates a tab with the configured Sheet Name on the next run.
