Finding hackathons

Browse the database

Use the hackathon database at /database, with its table, calendar and map views, sorting, featured events and CSV export

The database at /database is the full list of hackathons HackathonRadar tracks. It is called Browse in the app sidebar. Anyone can open it; what you see depends on whether you are signed in and on your plan.

Pick a view

The toolbar has three view buttons: Table view, Calendar view and Map view. Table and Calendar keep your current filters when you switch between them. Map view opens /map, which is covered in Map and near me.

Next to the Hackathons label at the top left is a menu that picks which events the view includes:

Upcoming (Next 7 days)Events that start in the next 7 days. The free defaultFree
OngoingEvents running right nowFree
Upcoming (All)Every event that has not started yet. The default on paid plansDev Pro
ActiveUpcoming and ongoing events togetherDev Pro
EndedEvents that have finishedDev Pro

On the free plan the paid options sit under Paid plans only with a lock, and picking one opens an upgrade dialog. A pill under the table tells you how many more upcoming hackathons are hidden.

The free 7-day horizon

On the free plan, and when you are signed out, the database covers hackathons that are running now or start in the next 7 days. The default view lists events starting in the next 7 days, and Ongoing lists events running now. Filters narrow those lists; they do not reach further out.

Dev Pro opens the full calendar: the default view becomes every upcoming event, and the Active and Ended views unlock. Collections and the Discord community use the same 7-day window for free users.

Signed-out visitors see the first page of results only. Changing the page or the Rows per page setting asks you to sign up for a free account.

The table

Each row is one hackathon. Click a row to open it in a side panel (see Open an event). Use Columns to choose which columns show; your choice is saved in your browser. The columns include Platform, Title, Description, Type, Start Date, End Date, Duration, Participants, Prize Pool, Location, City, Country, Categories, Sponsors, Student Only, Cash Prizes, Vibe-code Friendly, Travel Support, Language, Timezone, Venue, Address, Website, First Seen and Last Seen.

Some columns need a higher plan and are hidden from the picker until you have it:

Sort the results

The sort control in the toolbar lists the columns you can see. Pick a column, then Asc or Desc. The default sort is Participants, highest first. Events with no value for the sort column go last.

The calendar

Calendar view lays the month out as a grid, Monday first. Each event sits on its start day, colored by format (online, in person or hybrid), with its participant count and prize when known. A day with more than three events shows +N more, which opens the full list for that day. On a phone the calendar becomes a list of the days that have events.

The calendar applies the same view and filters as the table, so pick Ended to see past events in an earlier month. On the free plan the calendar stays on the current month and still uses the 7-day window. Dev Pro lets you move between months with the arrows and Today.

A star next to a title, with the tooltip Featured, marks a featured listing. Organizers and sponsors promote events this way through Feature your hackathon. In the Upcoming (Next 7 days), Upcoming (All) and Ongoing views they are pinned above the other results, which then follow your chosen sort.

Hosted events

/database?hosted=1 narrows the list to hackathons hosted on HackathonRadar itself, under the heading Hosted events. These events show a Hosted on Radar badge and take registrations on HackathonRadar instead of linking out. This view shows every upcoming hosted event on any plan, not just the next 7 days. If none are published yet you see No hosted events are listed yet.

Open an event

Clicking a row opens the event in a panel on the right, so you keep your place in the list. Use Open full page to go to the event's own page. Hackathon pages describes what the panel and the page show.

Export to CSV

Export CSV Dev Pro downloads the current results as a spreadsheet. The file uses the columns you have visible (minus any locked ones) and your current filters. The button is hidden when the toolbar is narrow, so widen the window if you do not see it. Larger exports for sales and sponsorship work are covered in Exports.

Save what you found

When you have filtered the list, signed-in users get a Save search button. It stores the current filters so you can reopen them and get alerts. See Saved searches and alerts.
