Finding hackathons
Map and near me
See in-person hackathons on the map at /map, and find the events closest to you at /near-me
Two pages answer "what is happening near me". The map at /map shows in-person events around the world for one month at a time. The near-me page at /near-me lists the events closest to where you are, ranked by distance.
The map
Open the map from Map view in the Browse toolbar, or go to /map. You need a free account to use it: signed-out visitors see a blurred map with Sign up to explore hackathons on the map and a Sign up free button.
The map shows hackathons that have a physical location, so in-person and hybrid events with known coordinates. Online events are left out. An event appears in a month if it runs during any part of that month. Nearby events group into numbered clusters; zoom in or click a cluster to split it.
Click a marker to see the event's title, dates, city and country, and venue, with a View event link to its hackathon page. On Enterprise the popup also shows the event's quality score (HQS).
The bar at the bottom shows the month and how many events are on the map. If the month has none, the map says No in-person events this month.
Change the month
| Plan | Months you can see |
|---|---|
| Free | The current month only. The bar reads Upgrade to explore other months |
| Dev Pro | Drag the slider to any month from October 2025 to 12 months ahead. A Back to button returns to the current month |
The selected month is kept in the address (/map?m=2026-12), so you can share a month with someone on a paid plan.
The map follows your light or dark theme. The map view does not use your filters from the table; it always shows every in-person and hybrid event with a location for the month.
Near me
/near-me is a public page; you do not need an account. It lists in-person and hybrid hackathons near you, closest first, that are live now or start in the next 7 days.
How it finds your location
When the page loads, HackathonRadar uses your approximate location from your internet connection. The pill at the top names your area when it knows it, for example Near London. Nothing is asked of your browser at this point.
The page then shows:
- A headline with the number of hackathons near you.
- Three counts: near you, start this week and in-person.
- A timeline of the events, closest first.
If your location cannot be detected, the pill reads Detecting your area and the page lists in-person and hybrid events worldwide that are live now or start in the next 7 days. Use your exact location (below) to narrow it down.
Use your exact location
The location from your connection is approximate. For a tighter list:
Click Use my exact location
The button sits under the headline on /near-me.Allow location access
Your browser asks for permission. Allow it.Read the new list
The pill changes to Using your exact location and the list is ranked by distance from your device's position.
Your coordinates are used to rank the list and are not stored. If you deny permission or your device cannot find a position, the page keeps the list it already showed and says We couldn't get your exact location, so we're showing your wider area instead.
When nothing is nearby
If there is nothing in your area this week, the page says Nothing live in your immediate area this week and suggests in-person hackathons, online hackathons and the full database.
Events further out than 7 days are counted under the list as N more upcoming hackathons near you, which links to pricing. To see those events, open the map on a later month with Dev Pro, or watch your city from its city page to get an email when new events are announced.
