Finding hackathons
Collections
The public /discover pages that list hackathons by city, country, category, month and theme, with no account needed
Collections are ready-made lists of hackathons at /discover, called Collections in the app sidebar. Each one answers a common question, such as "hackathons in London" or "online hackathons this week". They are public pages: you do not need an account to read them, and you can share or bookmark any of them.
The collections home
/discover links to every collection, grouped as Browse by Type, Browse by Month, Browse by Region, Browse by Category and Browse by City. Category and city tiles show how many upcoming events each has, and empty ones are left out.
What a collection page shows
Most collection pages share one layout:
- A title and short introduction with the event count.
- A stats strip: Hackathons, Avg Prize and Organizers.
- A timeline of events that are live now or start in the next 7 days, each marked Ongoing or Upcoming. Click an event to open its preview, or go on to its hackathon page.
- A locked section for events that start more than 7 days out. On Dev Pro these load in place; on the free plan the section shows how many there are. This is the same 7-day window as the database.
- Past hackathons: recently ended events that match, on most pages. Many events run again.
- Related links and a short FAQ.
Lists are sorted with live events first (ending soonest), then upcoming events by start date.
City pages
/discover/{city}, for example /discover/london, lists upcoming hackathons in about 90 cities worldwide. A city page matches the common spellings of the city, so "Bengaluru" and "Bangalore" land on the same page, and the San Francisco page includes nearby Bay Area cities.
City pages add a watch button, for example Watch London on the London page. It emails you about new hackathons in that city, and it works on the free plan. If you are signed out it takes you through sign-up first and finishes the watch when you come back. Watching a city creates a saved search, which explains what free and paid watchers receive.
When a city has nothing in the next 7 days, the page points you to remote events (View N remote hackathons available free) and to nearby cities that do have events.
City pages also go deeper:
| Address | Shows |
|---|---|
/discover/{city}/{category} | One topic in one city, for example /discover/berlin/ai |
/discover/{city}/{year} | Every event in that city that year, including ones that have ended. The current year redirects to the plain city page |
/discover/{city}/{category}/{year} | One topic in one city in one year |
Country pages
/discover/country/{country}, for example /discover/country/germany, is a seasonality page rather than an event list. It shows when hackathons happen in that country across the year, the top cities, and a FAQ. It links to the database and, where one exists, to the country's channel in the HackathonRadar Discord.
Category pages
/discover/c/{category}, for example /discover/c/fintech, lists hackathons on one topic. There are 26 topic pages, including AI & Machine Learning (ai), Blockchain & Web3 (blockchain), Fintech, Health & Biotech (health), Climate & Sustainability (climate), Gaming, Education, Social Impact, Cybersecurity, Developer Tools (devtools) and Web Development. Each topic groups several tag spellings, so the AI page includes events tagged "machine learning", "generative ai" or "llm".
/discover/c/{category}/{year} narrows a topic to one year.
Month pages
/discover/month/{month}-{year}, for example /discover/month/november-2026, lists hackathons that start in that calendar month. The current month and the 11 months after it have pages. A month that has ended redirects to the current month. Events further than 7 days away sit in the locked section, so most of a future month needs Dev Pro.
Region pages
/discover/europe covers hackathons in European countries and the United Kingdom, online and in person. /discover/europe/{category} narrows it to one of six topics: ai, social-impact, data-science, fintech, health and climate, for example /discover/europe/climate.
Themed collections
| Collection | What is in it |
|---|---|
| /discover/students | Events open to students only |
| /discover/beginner | Events suited to beginners and first-time hackers |
| /discover/vibe-code-friendly | Events that welcome AI coding tools |
| /discover/with-prizes | Events with a listed prize pool |
| /discover/with-travel-support | Events where the organizer covers travel or accommodation, fully or partly |
| /discover/online | Online events, live now or starting in the next 7 days |
| /discover/in-person | In-person and hybrid events, live now or starting in the next 7 days |
| /discover/this-week | Every event live now or starting in the next 7 days |
| /discover/weekend | Events of three days or less that run over a Saturday or Sunday |
| /discover/new | Events HackathonRadar found in the last 7 days that are live now or start in the next 7 days |
The online, in-person, this-week and new collections only cover the 7-day window, so they have no locked section and are complete on every plan.
When to use the database instead
Collections are fixed lists. To combine conditions, such as online AI hackathons with a prize over $5,000, use the filters on /database. See Search and filters.
