Finding hackathons
Discord community
Join the free HackathonRadar Discord for hackathons in the 7-day free window by region, reminders before events start, team-finding and project showcases.
HackathonRadar runs a free community server on Discord. It posts the hackathons free users can see: events running now or starting in the next 7 days. Members also use it to find teammates and share what they build. You do not need a HackathonRadar account or a paid plan to join.
Join the server
Go to /discord and click Join the Discord. The page also shows how many hackathons the server has posted in total and in the last week.
You may also get an email titled "Join the Hackathon Radar Discord" a day or two after you sign up for HackathonRadar. It carries the same invite. You can turn that email off with the Product news & offers switch on /settings/notifications. See Email notifications.
What is inside
| Area | What happens there |
|---|---|
| Hackathon alerts | Hackathons in the 7-day window are posted to topic and regional channels automatically |
| Find a team | Post your skills and timezone, or find people to team up with |
| Showcase and wins | Share what you built, swap feedback and celebrate placements |
| Search from chat | Use the /hackathons and /hackathon commands to look up events in the same 7-day window without leaving Discord |
Regional and online channels
Each regional channel has its own page at /discord/{channel}, with a live count of hackathons running now or starting in the next 7 days, how many have prizes, how many you can join online, and a list of those events. Each page has a button to join that channel directly.
| Channel | Page |
|---|---|
| India | /discord/india |
| USA | /discord/usa |
| UK | /discord/uk |
| Germany | /discord/germany |
| Europe | /discord/europe |
| Asia Pacific | /discord/asia-pacific |
| Americas | /discord/americas |
| Africa | /discord/africa |
| Online | /discord/online |
The Online channel covers events held online. The others cover events in that country or region.
When hackathons get posted
The community server only shows hackathons that are available to free users. A hackathon is posted when it enters the 7-day window: when it is due to start within the next 7 days, or as soon as it is listed if it is already running. This is the same window free accounts see on /database. Events further out are not posted; they are on the database with Dev Pro.
Each hackathon is posted to a channel once. You will not see the same event twice in the same channel.
Every post has three buttons:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bookmark | Saves the event to your Discord account |
| Remind me | Bookmarks it and sends you a direct message about a day before it starts |
| Register | Opens the event's registration page, or its website if there is no separate registration page |
Discord bookmarks are separate from your HackathonRadar favorites. Starring an event on the site does not bookmark it in Discord, and the other way around.
Get hackathon posts in your own server
If you run your own Discord server, you can add the HackathonRadar bot to it. It posts matching hackathons into the channels you choose, using the same 7-day window and the same buttons as the community server, and it is free. The bot's landing page is /discord-bot. For setup and every command, see Discord bot.
Troubleshooting
- A hackathon you expected is not posted yet. It is posted once it is within 7 days of starting.
- The reminder never arrived. Check that DMs from server members are allowed.
- You want fewer posts. Mute the channels you do not need in Discord.
