Welcome to the Rspawn - by M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences! About the Opportunity: RESPAWN – The 2D Game Jam is your chance to build it, play it and bring it to life! Participants will be added to an official WhatsApp group after registration and the general theme will be revealed at 9AM on October 13, marking the start of the 12-Hour Online Building Round from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Teams of 3–4 members can bring their ideas to life by building their own 2D game based on the given theme in any genre, using any game engine or framework of their choice. The Google Drive link for submitting their 3 screen-recorded progress videos at 4-hour intervals will be shared in the group along with further instructions. Simple creative elements such as patterns, symmetry or other mathematical touches can also be incorporated for additional points. After the 12-hour building round, teams will get 2 days (October 14 and 15) to polish their games, fix bugs, improve gameplay and get their final builds ready. The offline round will be on October 16 with a Live Pitching & Showcase, where teams will showcase their final playable games on campus before the judges, where each team will have 5 minutes to present their game, followed by 3 minutes for Q&A about their game and its technical implementation. Teams will be evaluated based on the submitted videos, documentation, creativity, technical execution, gameplay, and presentation, with the best teams competing to claim the title of RESPAWN Champion! Competition Structure: Day 1 (12-Hour Online Rapid Prototyping Phase): Conducted fully online prior to the campus event. Teams get 12 continuous hours tc build their 2D game. The use of boilerplate code, game templates, pre-designed sprites, or a near-complete engine starter kit prepared beforehand is allowed, but to prevent teams from providing an already pre-developed game, the official 2D game theme will be released in the official WhatsApp group immediately after registrations close, and the game must be developed strictly based on that theme. To track real-time progress, teams must submit 3 screen-recorded progress videos (one every 4 hours showing the current build status) via a dedicated Google Drive submission link. Each progress video must clearly display the date and time of the recording within the video itself. Intermission: 1-day break for rest, final bug-fixing, and preparation for the live showcase. Day 2 (3-Hour Offline Live Pitching & Showcase): Held on campus. All shortlisted teams from Day 1 must bring their completed playable games to present live before a panel of industry judges. Failure to attend will result in disqualification. Each team gets a 7-minute pitch slot (4-minute live gameplay demo + pitch, 3-minute judge Q&A). Judges evaluate final game stability, mechanical complexity, artwork/sound, and adherence to the mathematical aesthetic criteria.
