About this hackathon
Welcome to The Arcticathon by Bidaya! A solo online hackathon where you’ll take an idea from a blank screen to a working, deployed website all on your own.
About The Arcticathon:
The Arcticathon is a student-focused online hackathon by Bidaya, built around the theme of the Arctic.
You can create almost anything that runs in a browser: a web app, interactive experience, game, tool, or something completely different. Your project should connect meaningfully to the Arctic theme and showcase your creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving.
This is a solo-only hackathon. You’ll be the designer, developer, and project manager of your own project.
What You Need to Build:
Requirements:
Make at least three pages that link to each other.
Make a nested route.
Use at least 5 components.
One of those components should accept children.
One of those components should accept props.
Have a nested component.
Create a component that fetches and displays data from an API (e.g. JSONPlaceholder).
Log 3 hours using hackatime.
Note: Your submission needs to be meaningful (e.g. a portfolio, or a website showcasing your favourite artists) and also use relevant APIs (e.g. using a Dummy posts API for a blog page instead of using a lorem ipsum API).
Important Rules:
AI tools are not allowed. This includes AI code generation, AI design tools, AI writing tools, and AI coding assistants. AI usage can make your project ineligible for prizes.
Your work must be your own. Plagiarism, copying another participant's project, or misrepresenting authorship will result in disqualification.
To be eligible for prizes, participants must also log at least 3 hours of coding time through Hackatime.
How Projects Are Judged:
Projects will be reviewed based on:
Creativity.
Technical execution.
How well the project connects to the Arctic theme.
Every submission will be reviewed by the judging team.
Submission:
Before the deadline, participants must submit:
A live link to their website.
Their public GitHub repository.
An optional 60-second video explaining their project.
The submission deadline is strict, so make sure your project is deployed and submitted on time.
Build solo. Explore the Arctic. Ship something real.
