About this hackathon

About the Challenge

Each year, hundreds of youth in Ottawa experience homelessness — often due to family breakdown, school disengagement, or aging out of care. Many of these situations could be prevented with earlier support. In 2020, the City of Ottawa declared a housing emergency, and preventing youth homelessness remains a priority in its Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.

The Innovation Sprint

This three-day, interdisciplinary event brings together 100–150 students, faculty, community partners, and sector experts to co-design solutions that stop homelessness before it starts. Participants will take part in workshops, mentorship sessions, and solution-building activities, culminating in team pitches to a panel of judges.

Goals & Outcomes

  • Generate actionable, prevention-focused solutions.
  • Foster cross-sector collaboration and systems thinking.
  • Equip future leaders with tools to drive community change.
  • Produce implementable ideas for adoption in Ottawa and beyond.

Get Started

Form a team, dive into systems mapping, and work with mentors, policy leaders, and people with lived experience to design solutions that address root causes of youth homelessness.
