Event Overview
WebCloneMania is a web development competition designed to test participants' frontend development, debugging, and problem-solving skills. The event will feature two segments: Beginner and Advanced, allowing participants to compete based on their skill levels.
Beginner Segment – Website Recreation: Participants will recreate a reference website revealed by the organisers at the beginning of the competition, focusing on visual accuracy, responsiveness, and functionality.
Advanced Segment – Debug and Deploy: Participants will receive a pre-written codebase containing bugs, incomplete features, and backend issues. They must identify and fix the issues, implement the required functionality, and ensure the application works as intended.
Eligibility and Participation
Participation is individual; team formation is not permitted.
Students from any college are eligible to participate.
Participants from any academic year or specialization may participate.
Participants must register for the appropriate segment according to the registration instructions provided by the organisers.
Each participant may compete individually and must submit their own work.
Segment 1: Beginner – Website Recreation
Format
Participants will be shown a reference website on the spot and must recreate it within the allotted time.
Rules
The reference website will be revealed immediately before the challenge begins.
Participants will have approximately 3–4 hours to complete the challenge, subject to the final schedule announced by the organisers.
Participants may use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js, or other permitted frontend technologies.
AI tools, coding assistants, libraries, frameworks, and official documentation are permitted.
Participants must develop their own implementation during the competition. Submitting a pre-built clone or copying another participant's work is prohibited.
Unauthorised external assistance is not permitted.
The final website must be functional and accessible for evaluation.
Submission Requirements
Each participant must submit:
Source Code: A GitHub repository containing the complete project.
Live Website: A deployed website link or clear instructions to run the project locally.
Demonstration Video: A short video demonstrating the completed website.
Participant Details: Name, registration details, and other information requested by the organisers.
All submissions must be completed before the announced deadline.
Segment 2: Advanced – Debug and Deploy
Format
Participants will receive an existing codebase containing intentional bugs, broken functionality, incomplete implementations, or backend integration issues. Their task is to analyse the code, identify the problems, implement the required fixes, and make the application work correctly.
Rules
The starter codebase and problem statement will be provided by the organisers at the beginning of the challenge.
Participants will have approximately 3–4 hours to debug, implement, test, and demonstrate their solutions.
The codebase may include frontend, backend, database, API integration, authentication, or other web application components.
Participants must identify and fix the issues in the provided code rather than replace the entire project with an unrelated implementation.
Participants may use permitted programming languages, frameworks, debugging tools, AI coding assistants, and official documentation.
Participants must understand and be able to explain their changes during evaluation.
Unauthorised external assistance, copying another participant's solution, or sharing solutions during the competition is prohibited.
The final application must run successfully and satisfy the requirements specified in the problem statement.
Participants must submit their corrected codebase and demonstrate the working application before the deadline.
Submission Requirements
Each participant must submit:
Source Code: A GitHub repository containing the corrected project.
Working Application: A live deployment, where feasible, or a locally running application for evaluation.
Demonstration: A short video or live demonstration showing the fixes and working features.
Participant Details: Name, registration details, and other information requested by the organisers.
Evaluation Criteria
Beginner Segment
Visual similarity to the reference website.
Layout, typography, colours, and styling.
Responsiveness across screen sizes.
Functional interactions and navigation.
Code quality and overall completeness.
Advanced Segment
Correct identification and resolution of bugs.
Successful implementation of required features.
Frontend–backend integration and API functionality.
Application stability, error handling, and testing.
Code quality, efficiency, and completeness.
Ability to explain the implemented fixes.
The organisers will announce the final scoring weights and evaluation procedure at the event.
Fair Play and Disqualification
Copying another participant's work or submitting someone else's implementation is prohibited.
Unauthorised collaboration or external assistance is not allowed.
Participants must not interfere with another participant's system, code, or submission.
Misrepresenting work or exploiting the evaluation process may result in disqualification.
The organisers reserve the right to disqualify participants who violate the rules.
General Instructions
Participants must bring their own laptops and ensure their development environments are ready.
Participants should arrive at the venue before the scheduled start time.
Internet access will be provided subject to availability.
The organisers will communicate the exact timings, problem statements, submission links, and scoring weights before the competition begins.
All decisions made by the organising team regarding the conduct and evaluation of the event will be final.
