Event Description
Senior Robo Sumo is a robotics challenge at TechTrix'26 where teams compete using RC-controlled robots in a sumo-style arena. The objective is to push the opponent's robot completely out of the ring while demonstrating robot control, mechanical design, maneuverability, and strategy. Participants bring a ready-to-compete robot and battle it out in a single-elimination knockout format.
Guidelines
Team Size & Eligibility
2 participants per team; each team brings its own RC-controlled robot
Open to eligible undergraduate/postgraduate students and participants from colleges/institutions
Valid institutional/college ID is mandatory
Only registered participants may compete; one participant cannot be registered in two teams for the same event
Team composition cannot be changed after the registration deadline without Event Coordinator approval

Pre-Event Inspection
Teams must report to the arena at least 30 minutes before the official start time
Every robot undergoes a mandatory technical inspection and weigh-in; a robot that fails to meet the specifications will be disqualified before the match begins
Arena & Competition Format
Circular sumo ring, approximately 1.5–2 metres in diameter, with a smooth surface
Single-elimination knockout format; a full bracket will be drawn and displayed before matches begin, with byes (for uneven team counts) assigned via random draw
Each match is a direct 1v1 battle, with robots starting from designated positions in the ring
A robot is "out" the moment any part of it touches the floor outside the ring
Each match lasts a maximum of 5 minutes
A robot that loses power or stops functioning mid-match is automatically disqualified from that match, and the opponent advances
Judging Criteria
If neither robot is eliminated within the 5-minute time limit, the judges determine the advancing winner based on:
Aggression — which robot consistently initiated attacks or pushes
Strategy — effectiveness of tactics used to push the opponent or avoid being pushed
Control — which robot maintained the best control of its movements and positioning
Disqualification
The following will result in disqualification:
Exceeding the published dimensions, weight, or voltage limit
Using a wired controller or autonomous operation
Robots or mechanisms carrying weapons, sharp edges, or hazardous materials
Receiving unauthorized external assistance
Deliberately damaging the arena or another participant's equipment
Cheating or attempting to manipulate the competition
Poor social conduct, misbehaviour, foul/abusive language, unsportsmanlike conduct, harassment, or intentional/reckless damage to campus property or the arena
The Event Jury/Referee/Technical Committee holds final authority on robot eligibility, technical inspection, match decisions, penalties, disqualification, safety decisions, and rule interpretation. Right to appeal: a penalized team may present its case to the Judge and Event Coordinators, but the final verdict rests entirely with the organizers.
