Event Description
Robo Soccer is a high-energy robotics football challenge at TechTrix'26, where teams compete using a custom-built, wirelessly controlled robot to maneuver a ball into the opponent's goal. Each team fields only one robot in the arena during a match. Teams must balance speed, control, and defensive strategy to outmaneuver their opponents in a fast-paced knockout tournament — bringing their own robot, controller, and spare parts.
Guidelines
Team Size & Eligibility
2 participants per team
Open to undergraduate/postgraduate students and eligible participants from colleges/institutions
Valid college/institutional ID is mandatory
Only registered participants may compete; one participant cannot be registered in two teams for the same event
Team composition cannot be changed after the registration deadline without written approval from the Event Coordinator
The registered team captain is the official point of contact
Robot Specifications
Specification
Requirement
Maximum Dimensions
350 × 350 mm (L × W)
Maximum Weight
3 kg, including chassis, kicking mechanism, and batteries
Maximum Voltage
3S LiPo, 12V DC/3s (fully charged) — IC engines, pneumatics, and compressors prohibited
Control
Fully wireless (RF or Bluetooth) manual control — no wired tethers, autonomous operation strictly banned
Ball Handling
At least 50% of the ball's surface must remain exposed at all times — mechanisms that fully trap, grab, suction, or swallow the ball are prohibited
Pre-Event Inspection
Teams must report to the arena at least 30 minutes before the official start time
Every robot undergoes a technical inspection and weigh-in; robots failing weight, dimension, power, or ball-handling checks will be disqualified before the match begins
Arena & Match Format
Arena: 8 ft × 4 ft, with 60 cm wide goal posts on each side
Single-elimination knockout format, with byes (for uneven team counts) assigned via random draw
A standard match consists of 2 rounds of up to 90 seconds each; the ball starts at centre with robots inside their defence "D" until the referee's signal
A round is won by the first team to score; if no goal is scored in 90 seconds, the round is tied
A team wins the match by winning both rounds, or winning one and tying the other
30-second break between rounds, with teams switching sides
If the ball goes out of bounds, play pauses, robots freeze in place, and the ball resets to centre
A robot that completely stops working mid-round causes an automatic round forfeit for that team (it may still play the next round if repaired during the break)
Tie-Breaker
If tied after 2 rounds, a 3rd Tie-Breaker Round (max 90 seconds, first goal wins) is played
If the 3rd round also ends 0-0, the winner is the team with the fewest accumulated penalties across all three rounds
If goals and penalties are completely tied, judges decide based on Aggression and Control
Judging Criteria
Penalties are tallied (not awarded as free kicks) and used as a tie-breaker:
Stalling (5-second rule): holding/pinning/trapping the ball in one position for over 5 seconds — 1 penalty point
Goal camping (5-second rule): parking entirely inside your own goal for over 5 seconds without playing the ball — 1 penalty point
Wall pinning (5-second rule): pinning the opponent against the arena wall while fighting for the ball for over 5 seconds — 1 penalty point
Aggressive ramming: intentionally and repeatedly ramming the opponent instead of playing the ball — 1 penalty point
Hand touches: manually resetting a flipped/stuck robot — 1 penalty point each
Disqualification
The following will result in disqualification:
Exceeding the published dimensions, weight, or voltage limits
Using a wired controller or autonomous operation
Ball-trapping/suction mechanisms that leave less than 50% of the ball exposed
Deliberately damaging another team's robot
Receiving unauthorized external assistance
Cheating, misconduct, tampering with another team's equipment, or misrepresentation of identity
Poor social conduct, misbehaviour, foul/abusive language, or intentional damage to the arena or opponent's robot
The Event Jury/Referee/Technical Committee holds final authority on match decisions, technical eligibility, penalties, disqualification, scoring, rule interpretation, and safety decisions. Right to appeal: penalized teams may present their case to the Event Coordinators, but the administration's verdict is final.
NOTE-: Registration Fees are not refundable.
