Event Details Date: 24 October 2026 Time: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM Venue: NewGen IEDC FAB LAB, I.T.S Engineering College, Greater Noida Registration Fee: ₹300 per team Prize Pool: ₹12,000 Team Size: 3 participants per team Coordinator: Mr. Deepak Kumar Event Description Make-A-Thon is a sustainability-focused "Best Out of Waste" challenge that puts participants' engineering creativity and resourcefulness to the test. Using only scrap materials provided by the organizers, teams must transform waste into something useful or innovative — belonging to any category (civil, mechanical, electrical, artistic, or otherwise) — tackling the problem of modern-day waste generation through practical, sustainable innovation. Guidelines Eligibility & Team Composition Team Size: Maximum 3 participants per team Open to undergraduate/postgraduate students and eligible participants from colleges/institutions Valid institutional ID is mandatory Both team members must work collaboratively to build the item within the given time Material Usage & Constraints Only scrap materials provided by the organizers may be used, and must be repurposed into the final creation Decorative or custom-made materials brought solely for aesthetic enhancement (paints, stickers, or any external items) are strictly prohibited Tools & Equipment Participants must bring their own basic construction tools (adhesives, tapes, scissors, cutting tools) Limited light workshop tools and safety equipment may be available at the venue, but teams should not rely on this Any provided workshop tool must be used with appropriate safety equipment and only under the direct supervision of an event coordinator Time Limit Teams have exactly 1 hour to complete their project A warning bell rings at the 45-minute mark, signalling 15 minutes remaining Work must stop immediately once time expires; going over time may result in point deductions or disqualification PresentationAfter time is up, teams must present their creation to the judges, explaining: Purpose — what the item is and how it can be used Concept — the idea and thought process behind its design Usefulness — its practical application and utility Rules Work may begin only after the official start signal No participant may receive assistance from anyone outside their registered team Teams are expected to develop their own solutions; plagiarism or use of unauthorized external work may lead to disqualification Judging Criteria Entries are evaluated on: Creativity & Innovation — how uniquely the scrap materials have been used to create something novel and useful Functionality — whether the item actually serves a practical, useful purpose Presentation & Explanation — clarity and depth of the team's explanation of their concept Resourcefulness — the team's ability to work effectively within the constraint of only using provided scrap materials and basic tools Disqualification A team may be disqualified for: Using materials other than the organizer-provided scrap (e.g., aesthetic add-ons) Continuing work after the time limit expires Receiving outside assistance during the build Plagiarism or use of unauthorized pre-existing work Poor social conduct, misbehaviour, unsportsmanlike conduct, or failure to follow safety guidelines Failure to follow general tool-safety protocols while using workshop tools The judge's decision regarding final scores and any rule violations is final and binding.
