JUGAAD – Scrap to Solution Welcome to JUGAAD – Scrap to Solution by Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal, Punjab! JUGAAD challenges participants to design and build innovative and practical solutions using scrap or recycled materials. The event focuses on creativity, sustainability, and converting waste into useful products. Participants are encouraged to think like product developers and create solutions that can be used in real life. About the Opportunity This event provides students with a platform to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills by turning discarded materials into functional and useful products. The focus is on practical innovation, sustainability, and the real-life usability of the proposed solutions. JUGAAD also highlights the importance of upcycling, responsible waste management, and exploring the hidden potential of discarded materials to work towards a more sustainable future. Objective Reduce the burden of waste management that threatens public health and the environment. Encourage innovative ideas for waste utilization, process modifications, and technical advancements. Themes / Problem Statements PVC Pipe Vertical Farming / Kitchen Garden Unit Build a modular vertical farming system using used PVC pipes for growing vegetables or plants in limited spaces such as balconies or rooftops. Cardboard & Scrap Wood Functional Furniture Create usable and reasonably strong chairs, tables, or shelves using cardboard and wooden scrap materials. Packaging Waste Reduction Develop low-cost reusable or biodegradable packaging solutions using natural fibers, recycled paper, or textile scraps for local products. Educational Kits from Cardboard & Scrap Design engaging and low-cost educational or science kits for children using cardboard and other scrap materials. Old Solar Panel / Battery to Low-Cost Street Light Make a functional low-cost street light using discarded solar panels and batteries suitable for rural areas. Portable Disposable Dustbin for Travelers Design a low-cost portable dustbin that rail or bus travelers can use for 1–3 days and then dispose of. Waste Tyre + Plastic Bottle Roadside Seating & Planter Create roadside seating and plant holders using old tyres and plastic bottles. Scrap-Based Insulated Vegetable / Fruit Carry Bag Make an insulated carry bag from old cloth, foam, or packaging materials to keep vegetables and fruits fresh for longer. Waste Paper & Cardboard to Seed Starter / Nursery Tray Create biodegradable seed trays or nursery trays from waste paper and cardboard that can decompose in soil. Engineering Innovation: Waste to Resources Open Theme – Students can showcase any innovative solution related to Sustainable Development Goals, Engineering, Innovation, and Sustainability using waste or scrap materials. Rules & Regulations Decorative items are prohibited. The Judge's decision is final. Every participant can participate in only one team. Every member must contribute actively to the project. Maintain proper decorum throughout the event. Participants should clarify all doubts before the event. Teams must ensure that their projects are based on the use of waste, scrap, recycled, or upcycled materials. Any form of plagiarism or unfair practice may lead to disqualification. Judgement Criteria Projects will be evaluated based on: Innovation Creativity Presentation Effective use of recycled / upcycled materials The decision of the judging committee will be final. Team Specification Each team can have a maximum of 3 members. Participants from any institute and any academic branch may participate, provided they possess a valid ID card from their respective institute. Every team must select a unique team name that should not be inappropriate, offensive, or conflicting with another team's name. Each team must specify a Team Representative with whom Team techFEST'26 can communicate regarding further information and notices. Each participant can be a member of only one team. Certification Policy Certificate of Excellence for top-performing teams. Participation Certificates for all eligible participants. Prize distribution based on judge-assigned points. Important Note Participants must follow the registration guidelines provided by Team techFEST'26. The organizers reserve the right to modify the rules, prize pool, dates, venue, or timing of the competition if deemed necessary under unforeseen circumstances. All guidelines are subject to change.
