Description
Circuit Optimization Challenge is a hands-on quantum computing competition focused on improving the efficiency of quantum circuits. Participants will receive one or more quantum circuits and will be asked to optimize them while preserving the required computational behaviour or output.
The challenge may involve reducing unnecessary gates, lowering circuit depth, improving gate usage, simplifying equivalent operations, and considering practical hardware constraints. Participants are expected to work with concepts such as quantum gates, circuit depth, qubit operations and Qiskit-based circuit construction.
The event tests whether participants can move beyond simply writing a circuit and instead reason about how a circuit can be made more efficient and execution-friendly. A short qualifier or sample optimization task can be used to verify readiness before the main challenge. Evaluation can consider correctness, degree of optimization, resource usage, technical reasoning and compliance with stated constraints.
The challenge is suitable for participants who have basic exposure to quantum circuits and Python/Qiskit and want to apply those concepts in a practical setting.
Duration
Total Duration: 90–120 minutes
Rules & Guidelines
Participants must compete individually.
Participants will be provided with one or more quantum circuits for optimization.
The optimized circuit must preserve the required computational behaviour or specified output.
Participants may reduce unnecessary gates, circuit depth, qubit operations, or other specified resource usage.
Python and Qiskit may be used for circuit construction, analysis, simulation, and optimization.
Participants must follow any gate, qubit, depth, or hardware constraints specified by the organizers.
Solutions should be submitted within the allotted time.
Participants may be required to provide the optimized circuit along with a brief explanation of the changes made.
Evaluation may consider correctness, circuit optimization, resource usage, technical reasoning, and compliance with constraints.
Plagiarism, copying another participant's solution, or using unauthorized external assistance is not permitted.
The organizer's decision regarding evaluation and final results will be considered final.
Exact submission format, allowed software/libraries, hardware restrictions, scoring method, and other event-specific rules should be announced before the competition.
