About the Challenge Level up your gameplay, level up the world. Build a game for social good.
We challenge you to build a game that makes the world a little better, whether by raising awareness, teaching a new skill, challenging misconceptions, or helping people see a real-world problem differently.
Your game can be funny, competitive, story-driven, or strategic. We're looking for thoughtful ideas, creative execution, and a clear reason your game matters.
Every game needs three things:
-
Accessibility: Make it beginner-friendly so players can jump in without a lengthy tutorial.
-
Usability: Keep the controls intuitive and the interface easy to navigate.
-
Purpose: Connect your gameplay to a real-world issue or a positive social outcome.
Need a place to start? Choose a theme. Pick one of the three words below as your creative starting point. You can interpret your chosen theme however you like, combine themes, or take your game in an entirely different direction. These are prompts, not restrictions.
1. CONNECT
How can games bring people together? Explore community building, empathy, accessibility, and communication. Could your game help players understand someone else's perspective or work together to solve a shared problem?
2. DISCOVER
What do people need to learn, question, or understand? Create a game that makes learning engaging, whether you're tackling misinformation, digital safety, financial literacy, or an overlooked scientific concept.
3. TRANSFORM
What would you change about the world if you could? Design a game that encourages better decisions, explores environmental challenges, promotes healthy communities, or helps players imagine solutions to real problems.
Get Started -
Find your cause. Choose a real-world issue that matters to you.
-
Pick your direction. Use one of the themes for inspiration, or develop your own concept.
-
Build your game. Turn your idea into an interactive experience using the tools and technologies that work for you.
-
Playtest and refine. Make sure the game works, the instructions make sense, and players can navigate it easily.
-
Submit your creation. Upload your code, demo recording, and project description to Devpost before the deadline.
You don't need to change the world in one game. Start with one problem, one idea, and a way to help players engage with it.
