FOSS FORGE 2.0 is a competitive open-source event organized by UFC (USAR FOSS Club) at the University School of Automation & Robotics, GGSIPU East Delhi Campus.
But this is not a traditional hackathon.
Instead of giving everyone the same problem statement, FOSS FORGE gives you a pool of real-world challenges from open-source projects, non-profit organizations, communities, and technical partners. You choose what you want to solve, compete with others working on similar challenges, and earn points, rewards, and prizes based on what you accomplish.
Some challenges may ask you to build a tool that a non-profit currently needs. Others might be a CTF, bug bounty, debugging challenge, automation task, AI/ML problem, frontend or backend challenge, or something completely different.
There are no fixed tracks. The challenge you pick becomes your track.
Event Details:
Venue: University School of Automation & Robotics, GGSIPU East Delhi Campus, Delhi
Dates: 21–22 October 2026
₹5,00,000+ cash prize pool
Sponsor-backed rewards, goodies and developer credits
Real-world open-source and community challenges
How FOSS FORGE Works:
1. Forge Your Rank:
The event begins with a competitive online quiz covering open source, Git, GitHub, programming, technology, and developer ecosystems.
Your performance determines your position on the leaderboard.
And your rank actually matters.
A better rank gives you an advantage when the challenge pool opens, so being fast, strategic, and knowing what you are capable of can make a real difference.
2. Choose Your Challenge:
Once the challenge pool opens, you can explore the available problems and decide what you want to take on.
These are not traditional GitHub issues.
A challenge could look something like: A non-profit organization needs a tool to automate a repetitive workflow. Build it, meet the requirements, and earn the points or rewards attached to the challenge.
Or: A repository has a security vulnerability. Find and responsibly report it within the given time limit to earn the associated points and rewards.
Or: A CTF challenge goes live at a specific time. Solve it before the deadline and compete for the top position.
Every challenge can have its own difficulty, time limit, scoring system, perks, and rewards.
Some may reward implementation.
Some may reward speed.
Some may reward finding the best solution.
Some may simply reward solving something nobody else could.
You choose what to compete for.
3. Forge & Ship:
Once you've chosen a challenge, it's time to work on it.
Depending on the challenge, you might need to build a complete tool, fix a technical problem, solve a CTF, find a vulnerability, automate a workflow, improve an existing system, or create something from scratch.
You'll work with real technologies and real requirements. You'll need to understand the problem, make technical decisions, build your solution, test it properly, and submit your work before the deadline.
Your submission may be evaluated on factors such as:
Technical quality · Correctness · Complexity · Impact · Completeness · Originality · Engineering practices
The best solutions earn their place on the final leaderboard.
The Challenges:
FOSS FORGE is designed so that there isn't just one way to compete.
You might find yourself working on:
Building a tool for a non-profit or community
Bug hunting and debugging
CTFs and security challenges
Bug bounty-style challenges
AI/ML challenges
Automation and developer tooling
Frontend or backend engineering
Documentation and developer experience
Open-source project improvements
Other technical challenges designed specifically for the event
Each challenge comes with its own requirements and rewards.
That means you don't need to be good at everything. Find the challenge that suits you and go after it.
Real Problems. Real Contributions:
The goal of FOSS FORGE isn't to create another pile of projects that gets abandoned after a hackathon.
Many of the challenges are based on actual needs from organizations, communities, and open-source projects.
The thing you build could become a real tool.
The bug you find could help secure a project.
The automation you create could save someone hours of work.
The contribution you make could continue being used long after the event ends.
You're not just building for judges. You're solving something that someone actually needs.
What You Can Expect:
Competitive opening quiz
Live leaderboard
A pool of real-world challenges
Time-bound competitions and challenges
Open-source and technical problem solving
Multiple technologies and domains
Mentorship and community interaction
Challenge-based scoring and evaluation
₹5,00,000+ cash prize pool
Sponsor goodies, premium tools and developer credits
Recognition for high-impact contributions
Who Can Participate?:
Whether this is your first contribution or you've been working with open source for years, there's something for you.
Developers, AI/ML enthusiasts, security enthusiasts, competitive programmers, designers, students, makers, and anyone who enjoys solving technical problems are welcome.
You don't need to know every framework or every tool.
You just need to be willing to look at a problem, figure things out, and build a solution.
This Isn't A Hackathon:
At a normal hackathon, you're given a problem and told to build something.
At FOSS FORGE, you choose the problem.
You might build something for a non-profit.
You might win a CTF.
You might find a security bug.
You might ship an automation tool.
You might solve a problem nobody else managed to crack.
There is no single path to winning.
Find the challenge. Claim your shot. Forge the solution. Ship it.
FOSS FORGE 2.0 2026:
Find it. Forge it. Ship it.
Open source isn't something you just watch.
It's something you get your hands dirty with.
