About this hackathon
DevCrest Buildathon 2026 :
The DevCrest Buildathon is a two-day virtual hackathon combining collaborative team development with individual technical competition. Participants first build a working Web development project in teams, then compete solo in a rapid-fire coding round.
Format:
Day 1 (22 August): Buildathon — teams of 3 build a full Web development MVP in a 6-hour window, based on an assigned problem statement.
Day 2 (23 August): Code Rush — qualifying participants compete individually in a timed technical challenge covering DSA, debugging, output prediction, JavaScript, and core programming concepts.
Eligibility:
Open to all developers with working knowledge of Web development (frontend, backend, and database fundamentals).
Inter-college participation is allowed. Participants from different colleges may be placed on the same team.
Inter-specialization participation is allowed. There is no restriction on branch, year, or domain background — only individual registration is required.
Team formation is not self-selected. Teams of 3 will be randomly assigned by the organising team and announced live at the event.
Process:
Register individually via Unstop.
Teams of 3 are announced live on Day 1.
Each team receives one assigned problem statement (comparable in scope and difficulty across all teams).
Teams build, deploy, and submit their project within the 6-hour window.
Submissions are judged on technical execution and a Build in Public component.
Top 14 teams (42 participants) qualify for Day 2.
Day 2: teams dissolve, and qualifiers compete individually in Code Rush.
Top 3 individual performers are declared winners.
Rounds & Duration:
Round 1 — Buildathon: 1 round, 6-hour build window (12:00 PM–6:00 PM, 22 August), followed by a submission and evaluation buffer.
Round 2 — Code Rush: 1 round, approx. 2 hours (2:00 PM–4:00 PM, 23 August), followed by verification and final scoring.
Problem Statements:
Each team receives 1 problem statement, assigned at the start of Round 1.
All problem statements are comparable in scope and difficulty and designed to be feasible within the 6-hour window using Web development.
Submission Requirements:
Deployed project link
GitHub repository link (mandatory)
Project presentation/demo (mandatory)
Required project documentation
A submission without a working deployment and accessible GitHub repository will not be considered complete.
Rules:
Teams must build using Web development as the core architecture. Additional libraries/tools are allowed as supporting technology.
All three team members must actively contribute; team points are divided equally among teammates.
Build in Public activity (progress posts, dev updates, technical write-ups) is a required and scored component — 90 points are allocated to this.
No last-minute rule changes; any change will be communicated equally to all participants.
Judging criteria are predefined and applied transparently across all teams.
Decisions made by the organising and judging team are final.
