About this hackathon

CODE VARIANT — BUILD 01 is a 12-hour online frontend building competition where participants choose a real-world problem, develop a web-based solution, and adapt to a new challenge introduced midway through the build. Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to 4 members. Competition Structure: Round 1 — Problem & Idea Submission Participants choose one of five problem statements and submit their proposed solution through Unstop by 17 October 2026. The Problem Statements are available in the Rulebook. The submission should communicate the problem, proposed solution, core features, user experience, and feasibility of the idea. The top 50 teams will qualify for Round 2. Round 2 — 12-Hour Build The shortlisted teams will participate in a live 12-hour frontend building round on 24 October 2026, from 12:00 PM to 11:59 PM. Teams will build their solution based on the problem statement selected in Round 1. The Surprise Challenge: Six hours into the build, Code Variant will introduce a Surprise Challenge related to the problem statement selected by each team. The Surprise Challenge will require teams to rethink and adapt a meaningful part of their existing solution. The challenge is designed to test how well participants can respond to changing requirements while continuing to build under time constraints. Further details about the Surprise Challenge will be revealed during Round 2. Team Size: Participants may compete individually or in teams of up to 4 members. Development Tools Participants may use AI tools and other development tools for brainstorming, research, debugging, coding assistance, content generation, design assistance, and related development work. The final submission must represent the team's own work and understanding. Participants remain responsible for the originality, functionality, design, code, content, and licensing of their submission. Final Submission: At the end of Round 2, shortlisted teams will submit their completed project through the designated submission form. The final submission will include the deployed website and other project details required by Code Variant. Important: Participants are expected to understand the problem they choose, build a functional solution, and respond meaningfully to the Surprise Challenge introduced during the competition.
