About this hackathon
Rebuild the Classroom: Build the tool that teaches when AI is the teacher.
AI can already answer any question a student asks. So what is the classroom for now?
Most of education still delivers a curriculum designed for a world that no longer exists, and most of what gets called "AI in education" is a chatbot bolted onto a textbook — the least interesting thing you could do with this technology.
We are building an AI-native learning system from the ground up. This hackathon is where we find the people who should build it with us.
Problem Statement
There is one problem statement for this hackathon:
Build something that changes how a student learns when AI is doing the teaching.
You decide what to build. What we are looking for is a working thing we can open and use, backed by a clear point of view about why learning should work this way. Some directions worth considering:
An adaptive tutor — a lesson that reads how the student is responding and changes course: slows down, jumps ahead, reframes the concept, or asks a different question entirely.
A learning platform — a full environment a student moves through, where progression is driven by understanding rather than by completing modules in order.
A curriculum engine — feed it a topic and a learner profile, and it generates a path through the subject rather than a fixed syllabus.
An assessment tool — something that works out what a student actually understands without a test, from how they engage with the material.
A teaching companion — a tool that sits alongside a human educator and does the part of the job that AI is genuinely better at.
Something we haven't thought of — if you have a better idea of what education needs, build that instead. Original directions are welcome and are judged on the same criteria.
Whatever you choose, build it around one subject or one learning experience and make that part work properly. Depth beats breadth here. A polished interface that teaches exactly the way a textbook does will not win this. A rough prototype that changes how a student engages with an idea will.
Polish is not the point. Thinking is.
Participation
Online. Individual participation only. Teams and joint submissions are not permitted. Everyone may apply.
Guidelines
Eligibility: Open to students of all years and disciplines, and to working professionals. No teaching or edtech background required.
Mode: Fully online.
Number of problem statements: One (stated above), with open choice of what you build against it.
Format: Two rounds — a 48-hour build round, followed by a live technical defence for shortlisted participants.
Round 1 duration: 48 hours from the start of the hackathon window.
Round 2 duration: 20 minutes per shortlisted participant — a 10-minute demo followed by 10 minutes of questions.
Registration: Free.
Process
Round 1 — Build and Submit (48 hours): Build your prototype and submit it along with your source code and a written note explaining your approach.
Shortlisting: Submissions are evaluated against the criteria below and shortlisted participants are announced on Unstop.
Round 2 — Live Technical Defence: Shortlisted participants demo their build live and defend their design choices. Expect to be asked why your approach helps a student learn, and to modify your code live.
Round 1 deliverables
A repository runnable with one documented command, or a hosted link we can open directly
A public source code repository link
A written note of up to 500 words covering what you built, the educational reasoning behind it, and what you would build next with more time
The repository and all links must remain accessible throughout judging
Scoring
Rethinking of engagement — 40 points: Does this do something the old model could not?
Educational reasoning — 30 points: Can you defend why it helps a student learn?
Technical execution — 20 points: Does the prototype work?
Extensibility — 10 points: Could this become part of a real system?
Important judging notes
UI polish earns zero points on its own. A rough interface with a genuinely new interaction model scores above a beautiful interface delivering a conventional lesson. Content volume is not scored — one lesson done properly beats a shallow full course.

Shortlisted participants may be considered for our AI Education Developer role, subject to final evaluation, technical defence, demonstrated authorship, availability and role fit. Ranking alone does not guarantee an offer.
Rules
Participation is strictly individual. Collaborative or jointly built submissions will be disqualified.
You must be registered on Unstop under your own account. One submission per participant.
All challenge work must begin after the Round 1 window opens. Work started beforehand will be disqualified.
Submissions must be original or properly licensed.
Open-source libraries, frameworks and public APIs are permitted. Any tech stack and any LLM provider may be used.
AI coding assistants are allowed, but participants must understand, defend and modify their submission live.
Pre-existing boilerplate and starter templates are permitted, provided they are declared in your submission.
Your prototype must be runnable by the evaluation team. Submissions that cannot be opened or run will not be evaluated.
Late registration or submission may be rejected.
Shortlisted participants must be available for the live defence round on the scheduled date.
Any form of harassment, misconduct or misrepresentation results in immediate disqualification.
Judging decisions are final after eligibility and originality checks.
Intellectual property
The prize-winning submission assigns all rights to LV8 Tech when the winner accepts the prize. All submissions grant LV8 Tech a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to the concepts and architecture contained in the submission. Participants warrant that their work does not infringe third-party rights. If you do not agree, do not register or submit.

Who should participate
You do not need a teaching background. You need a real opinion about what education should look like now that AI is in the room. If you have ever thought "if I were designing a school from scratch, it would not work like this" — this one is for you.
